Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open mail search window (Search->Search Mail/News messages) 2. Search for something that will produce hits. Actual Results: The shown hits is only accessible by double clicking the mail in the results list. Expected Results: There should be a 'Open mail folder' button (yes, just like in Netscape Communicator Mail/News), that jumps to the folder which the selected mail search hit is located in and selecting the mail (and thus viewing it). This enables users to find any realted mails very easy.

I made it so that the mail window opens, the folder gets selected and the message loads in the message pane. I still need to work on making it so that the message gets selected in the thread pane--but thought this is good for starters.

I have issues with this patch. hold off on this. prassana is working on some related code for taking a message uri, loading the folder, scrolling to the message and loading it in the 3 pane. when she's done, you will be able to use what she's doing to fix this properly. this bug is blocked on that bug. prassana, what's the bug you are working on?

I am working on http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10872 My initial patch was to just store the message index on folder. Now I am working on the right way of doing this - Thanks to Seth for the architecture help on this.

I see no improvement in 0.9.4 regarding this "goto messsage" feature. I found that you guys toko out the "flag" in the search message result window. Ie, users couldn't even use "go.next.flagged" to immitate the "goto message" function. This is hilarious. please don't throw that function away or you are forcing loyal users to keep Netscape 4.78, or switch over to Outlook Express for new users.

I like and TRUST netscape messenger, and I do hope that the mozilla would at least retain all the nice things of messenger (if not making them better). goto button is really important....

note to jglick: the "Go To Message Folder" button is disabled unless there is exactly one message selected. 4.x didn't disable (in the case of multiple selection), but clicking on it when there was > 1 message selected didn't do anything. note to laurel: the access key "G", doesn't work yet. see http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103783

ok. it's not yet available (not even in 0.9.5). There are 2 ways to the go back to thread: 1. use a special button at th search window [bug 56419] 2. use go -> next flagged message. you flag message in the search rseult listbox (if the flag column is usable) [bug 104754] Either way, the same routine would be used I believe. :)

Is this supposed to always open in a new window? That's what I get, and it makes no sense to me. In NS4, I would often search for myself in newsgroups, and click "Go To Message Folder" on my 20 or so most recent posts. This made it possible to find replies to my posts to read and respond to in an otherwise unmanagably long thread, which I'm not going to read in its entirety. It is not very convenient when it keeps opening new windows. I think it should reuse the existing window like NS4.

That was exactly how I was and am using Netscape Messenger. They gotta implement this feature or I would stay with the old one. It's very very important unless you don't use email/news. Hope to see it back in mozilla 0.9.6..

OK using nov2 commercial trunk build: win98, mac OS X, linux rh6.2 Feature implemented and generally working. Specific issues with Go To Folder will be logged separately, some already logged are: bug 103780, bug 103781, bug 104048... marking this one verified.

many thanks for the hard work... I did hope that object-orientness could really help re-writing projects.. :)

please take a look at my suggestion in: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130795 I think thc current fix is less than satisfactory compared to the original netscape implementation. Sorry to say that. :)

there should be more advertising about the new search toolbar... it's good and it should be promoted to replace the old <go to> button in netscape.
