User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_8; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16 Build Identifier: version:Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100802 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1.2 Attempting to open/save an MHT attachment opens a blank window with the title "nullMozilla Thunderbird". Worked in early 3.x versions. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Receive an MHTML attachment with MIME type "application/octet-stream" 2. Double click on the attachment Actual Results: "nullMozilla" window opens, has no content. Attempting to save the attachment results in an empty file. Expected Results: MHTML content is displayed, or the "Save As..." prompt appears. User also started in Safe Mode. Only difference was a dialog that said "This attachment appears to be empty". I tried to follow the logic where I _think_ this is being processed. "application/octet-stream" appears to cause some extra "peeking" into the attachment to try to determine what to do with it based on the filename extension -- but that's where I got lost. The same MHTML attachment sent by TB can be opened and displayed; the only difference being the MIME headers for TB vs. Gmail. TB version has "Content-Type: message/rfc822" and encoding of "7bit"; Gmail version has "Content-Type: application/octet-stream" and encoding of "base64". See http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/mht_files#reply_3210858 for the MIME headers; full message contents available upon request -- via email (due to user privacy concerns). [selected "Windows XP" as platform, which may be wrong. I don't know what "NT 5.1" is]

Mike can you try to get a testcase ?
Keywords: regression
Adding four "View->Message Source" attachments: 1. TBtoTB-Sent.txt (email sent from TB, sender's copy - results OK) 2. TBtoTB-Rcvd.txt (email sent from TB, recipient's copy - results OK) 3. GmailToTB-Sent.txt (email sent from Gmail, sender's copy - problem) 4. GmailToTB - Rcvd.txt (email sent from Gmail, recipient's copy - problem)
Attached file TBtoTB-Sent.txt (deleted) —

Attempt to "workaround" the problem by deleting mimeTypes.rdf (see Bug 589464) did not work for one of the two users reporting this problem (the one that provided the email samples).

GmailToTB - Rcvd.txt (email sent from Gmail, recipient's copy - problem) I did the following: 1. downloaded attachements 3 & 4 and rename them to end in .eml and 2. then open them in Mac Thunderbird 3.1.2, the MHT file is there no problem. Is is this windows specific or is my two step test procedure incorrect?

Any chance this has to do with a MIME mapping of "application/appledouble" ?? See Bug 589464. Did something in the upgrade "tweak" mimeTypes.rdf ?
this bug is 2 months old. is there still no resolution?
(In reply to comment #11) > this bug is 2 months old. is there still no resolution? Well welcome any patch :D feel free to submit one.
sorry, i am IT personal, not a developer....
there's a possible workaround in Get Satisfaction which involves editing mimetypes.rdf and "<RDF:li RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:text/webviewhtml"/> " to the "<RDF:Seq RDF:about="urn:mimetypes:root"> " section, full details: http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/mht_files#reply_3855515
I think I was able to reproduce this earlier today - stay tuned. :)
