User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) AppleWebKit/535.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/14.0.835.202 Safari/535.1 Steps to reproduce: I create account inews.gazeta.pl this account need login Actual results: Can't set login and password, only when get groups ask for password, only for password, not for account name Expected results: In acount configuration should be chcekbox "account need login" and account name and password
(In reply to Andrzej Borucki from comment #0) Can you check the Error Console and mention the error?
When you try to get say the newsgroup list are you prompted for a username and then a password ?
(In reply to Andrzej Borucki from comment #0) > Expected results: > In acount configuration should be chcekbox "account need login" and account name and password There is not such setting in Tb's Account Settings(Server Settings) for news server yet. Instead, Tb asks username to you if news server requests username(and asks password too, if news server requests password too), and if you request Tb to save username/password you typed, Tb's Password Manager saves the username(and the password) to a DB of Tb and re-use it upon next access. Perhaps inconvenient for you, but it's current implementation. It's because that number of news server who requests username/password had been vary rare and was very rare and still is not so many thus priority of enhancement for "authentication related settings in Account Settings for news server" is still low compared with priority of many severe bugs and/or very important enhancements. So, this can be called "current and long-term restriction in Tb". > Actual results: > Can't set login and password, only when get groups ask for password, only > for password, not for account name Is "Authentication(login) with the password prompt dialog only" successfull? Or authentication fails? Did you type username in the past when username dialog was shown? If yes, and if you requested to save username/password, it may be saved in Tb's DB. Go Tools/Options/Securyty/Password, Saved Password. Is entry for the news server already defined? If yes, delete the entry for the news server, and try to access the news server. Is username and password prompted by Tb? Anyway, get NNTP log and check protocol level flow around authentication. > https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging > SET NSPR_LOG_MODULES=timestamp,nntp:5 > See http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4643#section-2.3.3 for authentication in NNTP
FYI. RFC 4643 is dated October 2006. Date when the RFC became "Standard Track" is not very recent, but is not so old. I believe that developers kindly implemented RFC4643 support but they didn't/doesn't have time to implement Account Setting related backend and UI for it, because they, volunteers, are very busy.
Following is copy of Bug 566098 comment #5. > as I understand the NNTP implementation if you put your username@NNTP server name as the server > it will use the correct username and the saved password for this account. Do you put username part in Server Name field of Server Settings of the news account?
Severity: normal → enhancement
Summary: Usenet account need login → Usenet account need login (Server Settings of news account is better to have "use username&password" field and username field)
It looks like unifying username and password dialogs will fix this.
