bug 767657 shows try server breakage that recovered, but no known cause at this point. Heads had grown to around 2182, so doing a trim to see if that improves situation.

Update: continuing to prune in chunks. Note that recovery cited in comment #1 (without any change to # heads) shows try heads is not the root cause.
Attempts have been made to prune below 2,000, and that goal is elusive. This points to something not understood by the script in bug 734225.
Currently at 2,084 heads, with a prune of 1,500 underway.

prune still running - no way to tell how far along it is.

prune finished, reduced heads to 1,097 (-1051 from prune, +86 additions since operation started)
run took 8hr 40min to merge heads.
