You get a mail window with all three panes blank. If you then switch the setting back to direct connection you can thn close mail and reopen it successfully with all the folders in place. It might be worth spinning this mail problem off as a separate bug but I'll leave that to whoever it gets assigned to. I have a similar problem in Mozilla 0.9 where if PAC loads (which it does all the time because of bug 808885), mail refuses to come up and let me log in. This happens when I point to a non-existent PAC file that tries to load.

This is probably hard to reproduce, but it might still be a problem w/ a bad PAC file. ->mailnews, I'll provide technical support and a test case later.

I used the PAC file from the original bug in Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 (Mac OS X 10.4), and I didn't have the problem w/ blank panels. I also checked Seamonkey/Mailnews 1.1.9 (Mac OS X 10.4).
