Details
1. Install a Nightly Metro enabled build.
2. Set that build as the default.
3. Download and install a Release channel build from getfirefox.com.
4. Set this new Release channel build as default.
Actual results:
The Nightly Metro tile is still displayed but it doesn't get past the start screen.
Expected results:
The Metro nightly tile should disappear and start desktop Nightly Firefox when clicked.

If you set another metro-aware browser to the default, does the tile work as you would expect?

I tried the same steps but in step 3 using a Nightly build, and it works correctly. I can reproduce the bug as posted by Kamil though.
I think the start menu shortcuts are named after the channel they are on so if you install 2 nightly builds it will be different than installing 1 nightly and 1 release channel build. And right now we only have Nightly builds.
I think if the Release channel build was metro enabled we'd end up with a Nightly and a Release Metro tile at the same time, and should only have the release channel build at that point.

It works correctly if you use a Nightly build with the steps in this bug. But a different issue with slightly modified steps can be found here: Bug 844646

So this is only a problem for someone that's installed a not-Metro enabled Firefox on top of a Metro enabled Firefox?

Brian,
I am not seeing the original issue of Nightly being stuck in the splash screen as before. When I set the release channel of Firefox as default, tapping on the "Nightly" tile under the "Windows Start Screen" launched the desktop version of Nightly. Tapping on the Firefox release tile launched the desktop version of the release channel.
Went through the following:
- Downloaded and installed the latest version of Nightly and set it as default
- Ensured that a Nightly tile was present and launched Firefox Metro
- Downloaded and installed the latest version of Firefox from release channel
- Once installed, launched the browser and went to the options and made it the default application
- Went back to the "Windows Start Screen" and saw two different tiles (Firefox Release & Firefox Nightly)
- Tapped on the Nightly tile and the desktop version of nightly opened
- Tapped on the Firefox tile and the desktop version of Firefox opened
Build:
Nightly: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2013-08-31-03-02-24-mozilla-central/
Release Channel: getfirefox.com
Let me know if you need anything else Brian!

Thanks for checking it again Kamil, there's been some fixes relating to this so it's probably fixed now!
