User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.8; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 Build ID: 20130326150557 Steps to reproduce: Every time I start up the browser, it insists on restoring the last session I had with it, even though this behavior is not my default in Preferences. I have done nothing to induce this behavior; it has been with me since I installed the browser on my computer. Actual results: One of three things happens. If I close the window in my last session before quitting, I get an error at the beginning of the next session listing the window and tabs that were active at the time; given the choice to Close or Restore, I usually choose Close. If I quit without closing the window first, the browser may either return to that last page or go to my default home page with a session-restore option on the bottom. Expected results: Prior to version 20 I had no problem like this; what should be happening now is that the browser should go to the default home page, without the restore option. I instead get the constant attempts to restore the previous session, but this is not the default behavior I have selected in Preferences at all.
Could you test with a new profile, please. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles I think it could be an issue with one add-on.

Created an empty testing profile, went to Microsoft's Mac site (microsoft.com/mac) to test, then quit the browser twice, once after closing the window and once without closing the window. The issue persisted through both tries, so I don't think an add-on is to blame, as the test profile had nothing in it.

Works for me on Mac OS X 10.7.5 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 Build ID: 20130326150557 Home page is shown on restart, after closing the window or quitting Firefox.
