Did not want it to recover anything, just launch to my home screen as it always has done forever. Coud not find a way to turn off
There is a topic about this issue: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2670839
Does Firefox crash when you close it?
In addition, are you able to reproduce the issue with a fresh profile:

Firefox does not crash upon closing. Closing the screen about fail to recover takes me to my Google home page

Have not tried this or plan to

Peter, thanks for reporting this!
It sounds like other people are also seeing this problem, and I don't think making a new profile is necessarily the answer. Possibly something is going on with private browsing and/or session storing.

I think this bug is a duplicate of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=855785 so I'm going to redirect the conversation there.
