RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 238398

People

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 Iceweasel/24.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20130918070514

Steps to reproduce:

Created a mail message with a large attachment. I don't want to save the large attachment with the message in the sent folder [since it A) takes double the time to complete sending and B) fills up my mailbox] so right now I have to go to Account Settings, Copies and Folders, and disable the "Place a copy in..." checkbox, send the message, then enable it again.

Actual results:

The prodedure works but it's problematic not only because it's a hassle, but because I often forget to re-enable the option again after I've sent the message in question.

Expected results:

There should be a toggle option in the Options menu of the compose window that says "Save to 'Sent' folder" or similar that is checked by default if the one in the Account Settings is (and not if not,) that allows the user to change the behavior for just this message.

A more interesting (but harder to implement) idea would be to offer the option to not save the attachments with the message in the Sent folder, a bit like the Detach option for Inbox items. This way we can still have a record of sending the message without having to manually delete attachments from them, and it would save the time it takes to copy to the Sent folder. They could be saved with links to the original attachment locations, just like Detached messages do. (i would expect this option would only be possible on unencrypted, unsigned messages though.)
