User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20131025151332 Steps to reproduce: I'm not sure this problem is a duplicate of some other "shutdown hang" issue. But it's reproducible: 1. My Thunderbird client is set to automatically connect to an IMAP server and check for new e-mails, at startup. 2. My Thunderbird client runs on a Windows 7 64 bit machine, which connects to the Internet through a router. The IMAP server is on the Internet side. 3. When there's no Internet connection available, or by emulating such a condition (dropping packets on the router and flushing the DNS cache on the machine running Thunderbird). The gateway/router is always accessible to the client machine, even if the Internet connection is down. 4. Start Thunderbird and close it in the first few seconds, while it tries to resolve the IMAP server address. At least that's what I think it tries to do. Notes: 1. I have upgraded from release build 24.1.0 to 25beta1, I've even tried earlybird 27.0a2. 2. The Mozilla source server doesn't seem to provide sources for any of the above Thunderbird builds. Actual results: The Thunderbird process lingers after I have closed its window, with zero CPU usage. I have to manually terminate it. Expected results: The Thunderbird process should not linger in memory, minutes after I've closed the program's window.
Is it easy to reproduce? Can you do with current Earlybird?

Sorry, I didn't get any e-mails, I'm not sure why. To answer to your question: yes, it's fairly easy to reproduce. All I need is to start it, while my router is up and the Internet connection is down.

As I've said in the bug report, I have tried Earlybird.
I'll try the current version of Earlybird, tomorrow, after work. Maybe the Mozilla source server has the necessary symbols, this time.

I've also edited my e-mail preferences, so I'm receiving the proper notifications. If you think this is a critical issue, please change it. I've changed it to 'normal' because I thought I erroneously set it to 'critical', when I first reported the bug.
hangs are critical by definition if possible, please use builds at https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/

I have reproduced the issue with thunderbird-33.0a1.en-US.win32.installer. What do you need?
The application verifier is also catching a double-free, when the daily build starts. This is not happening with the stable version, 24.6.0

Mihai, do you Still see this when using a current beta? http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/

I have just finished testing thunderbird-38.0a2.en-US.win32. I see that a watchdog is implemented in the new builds. The issue is still present. The crash reporter starts a minute (or so) after the issue is triggered. https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/101e000f-ba0f-44d0-86a0-6b97b2150314 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/819fd8a9-8c5a-4730-911e-9bbed2150314

Yes, a watchdog was implemented. Mihai, can you give us another crash ID so we can see if the signature changed?
