Running jre.xpi doesn't install the mozilla java plugin. After running the
jre.xpi you have to manually copy the NPOJI600.dll from the javasoft/jre/bin
directory to the mozilla/plugins directory. A quick piece of text explaining
this process would be nice on the releases page. I am using the Aug24 nightly
build.

This is tricky because the jre.xpi just runs the Sun installer. That installer
used to do the correct copying, but perhaps some key it's looking for is no
longer getting set by the Mozilla install.

Did you use the installer for Mozilla or just unzip? If the latter then this is
known not to work because the JRE install keys off windows registry entries that
are set by the installer.

bug 100010, by the way, is something completely different.
I don't believe the nightly builds come with installers. So you are correct in
assuming that I just unzipped it. If this is a known issue then again a piece
of text explaining what is required to get the jre.xpi to install for the
nightly build case would be nice, the nightly build that is linked off
mozilla.org doesn't include the installer. Maybe in the release notes for the
non-installer version.
Seems then that this one is a dupe of bug 100580, isn't it?
Please look at http://gemal.dk/mozilla/java.html and see if that doesn't help you.
If it does please close this bug...
