+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #947433 +++ We would like to re-use the same page in bug 947433, with only some copy changes and a different survey link, to re-run this survey in Aurora next week.
Summary: Create a What's new page for Firefox nightly 29 → Create a What's new page for Firefox Aurora 29
Hi Tyler- Are you proposing that next week we no longer show the tour and instead show an updated version of the page described here? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=947433#c0 in order to run a follow up survey? I don't have any objections, but would like Laura, Eric, and/or Chad to chime in and say they are cool with this plan. What day next week are you aiming for? Thx, Jen
No we will still want the tour to run (Most users will have updated by next week anyway, I'm not thinking there will be much of a conflict here). But yes, we want to display an updated version of the page we used in nightly, with a new survey link, and run it for at least 1-2 weeks to gather enough data to run a follow up survey. We won't be running the pot-tour surveys by the time this one goes live (The tour surveys die on the 17th). Any day the week of the 17th will work for us.
Just for reference, the link for this new survey is http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1512875/Aurora-Australis-29-Survey
Thanks, Tyler. In that case, then I might have a question for Gavin about how to trigger a web page that isn't the whatsnew page showing the tour. Tyler: is the use case you are looking for is: 1. first time user updates Aurora, the user sees the onboarding tour 2. then show another survey page to users after they have seen the onboarding tour, possibly on another update of Aurora or on browser restart? If yes, then I think we need to ask Gavin how to trigger this second survey page for users who have already seen the tour.

@Jen, yes that's basically what I'm looking for :)
We can disable the UITour whatsnew next week (most Aurora users will have hit it by then) and just replace it with a buildID-based one-time page (like we did in bug 950405). But we should sort that out in bug 966020 :)

Hi Tyler and Gavin - I talked with Eric and Laura, and they would prefer to keep the tour up and running rather than run the follow up survey. Tyler - would it work for user advocacy to run the follow up survey as an Aurora snippet instead? +Jean Collings as she runs the snippet program. Thx, Jen
Flags: needinfo?(tdowner)
No we can't run this as a snippet. We will be surveying a different group of users in that case compared to nightly. This needs to be run as a what's new page. This survey is very important to understanding Australis and making sure that we continue to improve, so we need to run this in the same way that we ran this in nightly.

I'm confused. Are we showing the tour on every single update (which is every night for Aurora)? We'd like to put a whatsnew/survey page for this build that should show up well after people have taken the tour. This is to see how people feel about it 2 weeks after they've already been using Australis (and have taken the tour). If we're showing the tour on every restart, that's really not the experience we want and should be fixed. If we're not, why can't we put a whatsnew/survey page (like we did for nightly) on a page that users see so they can tell us how they feel about Australis after having eased into it. One of our key goals is understanding if having taken the tour impacts how users ramp up to the new UI long term. We can't do that if we only show a snippet where a very selective small group actually sees the survey.

Hi Cheng- We are currently showing the UI tour once on the user's first update to Fx 29 in Aurora. Currently, we don't have a way to show one web page on first update and another update on subsequent update at the same time. MattN has a suggested solution for how to turn on the survey with a later Aurora update, while keeping the tour live for the first update. Please note, that this solution will not allow us to show both the update tour and the follow up surve in either Beta or General Audience because they don't update the same way. -Jen
Please go ahead and implement this ASAP with the workaround solution, and we will immediately begin planning around how to run this survey in Beta and Release.

Hi Alex- MattN says we can put the new survey page up and any url and he'll have the product point to the url we choose. Thx, Jen PS to Tyler, Cheng, and the rest of UA: we'll get the page up early next week and then engineering can finish their part to get the page live.
Hey Jen. Thanks for letting us know. Really appreciate the awesome work going on here!

Ok I've put this page with the updated survey link up on a demo server: https://www-demo3.allizom.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/up-to-date/ Are there any copy amends needed? If not, please let me know and I'll issue a pull request so we can get this up on prod.
Copy looks good on our end. Let's get this launched and live ASAP
