I think this only happen in roaming. I got again more than a hundred notifications.
Component: RIL → Gaia::System
blocking-b2g: backlog → ---
This happens even without roaming for me and it is really very irritating. Has something been done about this?

Hi, the channel messages are received always, even after disabling alerts and cell broadcast. I think this bug is quite old, can we triage this?

Hi methwanishagufta, May I know if all the messages are delivered from the same channel with the same content? If yes, then this could be a duplication to bug 1067938 and could be fixed once bug 1067938 is landed. BTW, Is there any screenshot for reference? Thanks! (In reply to Trishul from comment #5) > Hi, the channel messages are received always, even after disabling alerts > and cell broadcast. > I think this bug is quite old, can we triage this? Hi, may I ask for more information to clarify this issue? 1. which channel id of the broadcast message did you received after disabling the alert? This is important because there are several emergency channel that will keep open event the alert is disabled. 2. Are all the messages delivered from the same channel with duplicated content? If yes, then this could be a duplication to bug 1067938. If no, would you please help to capture the log with RIL debugging enabled for further analysis? a) Settings -> Developer -> RIL Output in ADB. b) Settings -> Developer -> Shake to Save System Log. Thanks!

So the channel is same, and the content of the message is as you can see is unreadable. In addition there are number of notifications which makes the other notifications less visible. Can we prioritize this as its a big blocker for me to make the foxfooding device as my primary phone?

Since the symptom is different from the one in this bug, bug 1235110 has be filed to follow up this problem.

This is what I see. Channel 50 continuous notifications mentioning the locations.

Channel 50 continuous notifications mentioning the > locations. Instead of displaying a notification and a full screen dialog for normal cellbroadcast messages, there is a special UX in Gaia for CBS Channel 50 in Brazil carriers to prevent annoying notification from this channel. [1] There will be an dedicated area on lock screen to notify this information received from Channel 50. May I know which carrier you've subscribed and what's its mcc/mnc? In addition, we need more input from UX/Product to see if we can reuse this design for similar type of messages available in other countries. In addition, before having a solution for this annoying notification. You can prevent receiving these messages by disabling the Cell Broadcast feature in Settings -> Message Settings -> Cell Broadcast Messages.
As mentioned in comment 5, I already disabled them from Settings -> Message Settings -> Cell Broadcast Messages but still they appear, that was the bug basically.
(In reply to Trishul from comment #14) > As mentioned in comment 5, I already disabled them from Settings -> Message > Settings -> Cell Broadcast Messages but still they appear, that was the bug > basically. Sorry, not mention clearly that this only workable for methwanishagufta. The unreadable message is special for the STK SIM DOWNLOAD which will be addressed in bug 1235110.
I have not inserted any SIM card and also disabled cell broadcast .

(In reply to methwanishagufta from comment #17) > I have not inserted any SIM card and also disabled cell broadcast . This surprised me. That means there is something wrong in the modem that the broadcast message could be received when there is no SIM inserted! I'll also double check locally to see if the cell broadcast will be disabled correctly when the setting is off. Keep NI on myself.

After further testing, I found that there seems something wrong in Z3C's base image. No matter the sim is inserted or not, I always got GENERIC_FAILURE when enabling/disabling Cellbroadcast via REQUEST_GSM_SMS_BROADCAST_ACTIVATION to the modem. I cannot see this problem on other reference like flame-kk. Special treatment might be required for z3c to resolve this annoying problem. :(

Update further investigation in my Z3C: 1. REQUEST_GSM_SMS_BROADCAST_ACTIVATION with "activating" only works after there has been some message ID set via REQUEST_GSM_SET_BROADCAST_SMS_CONFIG. 2. REQUEST_GSM_SMS_BROADCAST_ACTIVATION with "deactivating" never works no matter there has been any message ID set via REQUEST_GSM_SET_BROADCAST_SMS_CONFIG. This prevents user to disable the Cell Broadcast from the settings. The workaround we have so far is to double check the "disabled" setting before notifying the CB message to the application layer.
(In reply to methwanishagufta from comment #17) > I have not inserted any SIM card and also disabled cell broadcast . Bug 1235697 has been created to follow up this problem.
