We're using 1.15em in the location and search bars on Windows and 1.25em on Mac. It probably makes sense to not do this in compact mode to fit more characters.

If it means going back to how it was in yesterday's nightly, it was barely readable on Win10 for me (even with dpi set to 125%). All that padding is not necessary though.

Well, that's your system's default text size, isn't it? So tab labels and many other things won't be readable either. Seems like you should use a larger zoom factor.

Please see also: Bug 1366519 "Larger font size used in URL and Search Bars, Nightly 55.0a1 (2017-05-19), on Windows 7 using "Windows Classic" theme". Until, 2017-05-19, the font size in the URL bar and Search bar was the same size as the 'Tab Titles' and the Menus. DJ-Leith

You are right, I just retested that. it's the same as system and I have no issues with Explorer, the problem is that we dim part of the text in the urlbar, and that part is hard to read. I guess I could adapt, I just want to note that the dimmed part is not very accessible. FWIW, there's still too much padding around text compared to Explorer, it looks unbalanced.

Okay, let's keep it as is then. Accessibility guidelines do say that smaller text needs more contrast / bigger text can get away with reduced contrast.

But that the behavior I wanted from compact themes as normal theme is good for casual users. This should be reconsidered :( It's called compact for a reason and if you do a survey most people will agree.
