mailing lists really suck in mozilla. there a bunch of bad bugs that need to be fixed before 1.0 / netscape beta.
General List Issues: bug# 128642: Up/Down arrows do not work or don't work as expected in list dialog bug# 130732: Delete cards from a list, switch folders and results pane is empty. bug# 134958: Deleting a mailing list from the directory pane fails bug# 117225: Delete list, should remove from AB Sidebar immediately (nsbeta1-) bug#117836: List selected in directory pane, add a card and the card is added to AB but not the list (have to dnd to list). bug#96877: List loses addresses (I can't reproduce exactly as described. Reproduced problem where a change in the main card is not updated in the list, should they be linked? I don't think my last findings is exactly what the reporter described, maybe related to 128645 or 126153. bug# 126135: Kat, list w/8 entries, send to list and the recipients listed 3 to 4 times in the addressee field and duplicated 3 to 4 times in the list within the address book. Import/Export List Issues bug#119360: Export ldif lossy Drag-n-Drop List Issues bug# 117996: drag and drop of card to mailing list adds a duplicate card, if email address contains capital letter (I just checked this and it appears to be working) Turbo List Issue bug# 134743: Turbo on, mailing list entries duplicated after an exit/restart
I think 134743 is the main one we need to worry about fixing for Mach V Beta.
I think that there is a version of bug #134743 that is not turbo related. accepting. the overall quality of mailing lists needs to improve before we ship.

bug# 138647: Create a list and entries do not remain in the list dialog (yet if the list is selected in dir pane then entries appear in results pane) & sending to list fails.
Depends on: 138647
Can we retarget this? It's targeted for 1.0 but depends on some work that isn't yet targeted, or is targeted for 1.2alpha. bug 96877 p1 critical targeted for 1.0 bug 117225 p3 normal targeted for --- nsbeta1- bug 117836 p2 normal mozilla1.2alpha nsbeta1- bug 119360 -- normal targeted for --- bug 126135 p2 normal targeted for 1.0 nsbeta1+ needinfo bug 128642 p1 normal targeted for 1.0 nsbeta1+ [ADT3] bug 130732 p2 major targeted for 1.0 nsbeta1+ [ADT3] bug 138647 -- normal targeted for --- nsbeta1 I think it's safe to guess that this bug won't be fixed by 1.0 -matt

I still get no response on the fact that the editing dialog box (double click on a list to display it) is now modal and useless. It is the ONLY way to edit a list so that you can 1) see the names in the list 2) see the addresseses in your book to add to the list This should be trivial to fix. I do not understand why the powers that be insist that lists work... In any event, I made a new list, and when I use it to send mail, it sends like 4 copies the message to each recipient, even though the users are listed only one time. I also get blank cards in the lists that appear I agree they still suck. They are also vital before a real release can go out.
I think bug 128499 is pretty bad, too.
> I think bug 128499 is pretty bad, too. that's a code level bug, a minor issue.
bug# 146482: Deleted card from the mail list still showing up (need to switch between address books for force a redraw)
Version : 2002053012 (1.0), Win2k Mailing lists are nearly completely unusable for me : - I cannot drag / drop addresses into a list (either with sidebar or window) - I cannot delete existing lists - If I delete entries into a list, it does not dissapear immediatly (when it does dissapear), sometimes it creates blank entries in the concerned Address Book ... I think that proper maling list management is a KEY feature of a decent email client, without it, i'll stick with tools that work (Eudora, even Netscape ...). I thought that 1.0 was meant to be free from bugs that render a feature unusable. As a user, I consider this whole bunch of bugs as VERY annoying, therefore they should have a big priority, but that's only my opinion ... (Not meant to argue)
Nobody REALLY uses mozilla as a mail client ? I have several tenth of thousands of mails (dunno exactly, mozilla does not display it), several hundreds of contact, and damn I think I'll change my mail client soon without a working address book :-((((
Adding more bugs which have nab-mlist tracking keyword (mailing list related) once added by Ninoschka.

Whilst our mailing list implementation is still not brilliant, I don't see there is a real reason for us to keep this meta bug open - the bugs themselves are there to be tracked. I'll keep the deps just in case anyone is interested.

(In reply to Mark Banner (:standard8) from comment #14) > Whilst our mailing list implementation is still not brilliant, I don't see > there > is a real reason for us to keep this meta bug open - the bugs themselves are > there to be tracked. I'll keep the deps just in case anyone is interested. "Not brilliant" is a bit euphemistic for "fundamentally conceptually flawed by design". Think of the creation of duplicate cards whenever you add addresses from other ABs - extremely confusing and hazardous for AB data structure and health. Or bug 105160 where a single bad egg spoils it for the rest of the list. Modal mailing list properties dialogue making editing much harder. Deleting cards will break mailing lists without warning. Cards do not show their mailing list membership. Until recently, ghost duplicate cards after mailing list editing, tempting users to delete all cards. And so on... I think the current title of this bug is still very much applicable ("make mailing lists not suck"). Fyi: Bug 757736 - [Meta] Relationship of mailing lists with address book cards is conceptually flawed - explore improvement options
