Changes to the new "keywords" field are not showing up in email diffs. They do
show up in View Bug Activity. For example, for the change in
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_activity.cgi?id=4233 I saw only Ian's comments
on the bug, not the change to keywords.
You know, this might be a good thing while the current markers are mass-copied
to keywords. Assuming people don't write "sorry for the spam" in the
description field, that is...
:-D Yes, it might be a good thing indeed...
It in fact was an intentional thing. People are feeling overwhelmed by bugzilla
mail as it is.

Whether it is a *good* thing, I'm not so sure. So I'll leave the bug open.

Terry, if you remove this, why not cc and upstream dependencies? Seems rather
inconsistent, and I would imagine this is most useful than those.
I agree that's probably not consistant. The pragmatic answer is that it's
actually awkward (not impossible, but awkward) to change existing behavior on
the email reports, but it's really easy to decide whether a new feature becomes
part of it or not. In other words, I'm being lazy.

The other answer is that I'm uncomfortable with the current keyword behavior,
and I'm uncomfortable with the amount of spam people get, and I just haven't
seen an answer I'm going to be happy with. So I'm letting it all stew in my
head, and keep hoping someone will solve everything for me. :-)
What in particular are you uncomfortable with with keywords?
See the above. I am trying to reduce email spam, and keywords will generate a
lot of it, especially in the short term as things get ported to it.
IMO, you should do one of the following two things in the very near future:

 1) put a very clear message on the "make changes to all these bugs at once"
form that says (in big, bold, print, perhaps) "Keyword changes alone will not
cause email to be sent. If you don't say 'sorry for the spam' in the comments
field, there will be no spam."
 2) Cause keyword changes to send mail.

It defeats the point when I get 50 diffs that say "Changing keywords. Sorry for
the spam."
Adding to the SPAM:
By moving [Help wanted] from Summary to helpwanted in keywords, "Changed" mails
are generated. It's probably only a problem in the phase of transition, but the
mail showed no sign of who did what and why. Encountered on 18706.
I managed to find this bug# after hints on irc, just wanted to note, that I did
not understand what's going on in the first place.
This is because changes to the status whiteboard result in notifications.

The new notification system says who is doing the change.
Bug #32835 is related.

Whether or not this should be changed is questionable, but it appears as though
keywords are not being stored in the shadow database. I *THINK* this is why
processmail isn't picking up the diff, which is what it keys off of to determine
whether or not to send out mail.
I would like to see keyword changes. It is especially irritating if you change
something plus the keywords any only this something appears.
I think
a) if there is a diff sended this should contain the diffed keywords.
b) if only the keyword is changed then this should depend on a preferences as
other things do.
This is fixable with a full implementation of bug #17464, which should
eventually allow you to choose what keywords you want to sit on.

Could this be related to the fact that I've seen keyword only changes not
properly cause midair collisions?

I suspect this is only using the oldmail system. When using the newemailtech
system, I recieve mail about keyword changes.

Initially bug 17464 will not allow e-mail prefs based on individual keywords
(because of the extra time it would take to impliment). This may change in 2.13.
2.14: Work out what the heck is going on here. Will this be resolved if we
trash old emailtech?

Some ppl might consider this dependent on bug #69253, aka e-mail notification
for individual keywords.

New email tech does not have this problem. I have checked that adding and
removing keywords as the only change does cause a notification to be generated.

OK, old email tech did have the problem, but it is no more. Hence WONTFIX.

If you don't want to receive keyword changes, yell on bug #69253 rather than
here.

Clearing milestones, since we really shouldn't have them on these types of
resolutions. Sorry for the spam everyone...
