I'm worried about the existence of files that have 'firefox' in their name especially i suspect that we don't really want extensions/third party things to include the actual product name in their files. mxr only lists 15 such files, for which i'll file bugs by group: /extensions/safe-browsing/lib/firefox-commands.js /extensions/sroaming/resources/content/prefs/firefox.xul /extensions/sroaming/resources/content/prefs/firefox.js /browser/components/safebrowsing/content/firefox-commands.js /browser/app/firefox.ico /browser/app/firefox-os2.ico /browser/app/profile/firefox.js /browser/app/firefox.exe.manifest /browser/app/macbuild/firefox.icns /browser/app/firefox-branding.js /browser/installer/windows/msi/firefox.ver /browser/installer/windows/msi/firefox.mm /browser/installer/windows/firefox-win32-stub-installer.jst /browser/locales/en-US/firefox-l10n.js /browser/locales/en-US/chrome/help/firefox_welcome.xhtml

Hey, all (esp. timeless and Ehsan), we were just reviewing all the old legal/trademark bugs assigned to members of the legal team, and stumbled across this one, and it is a little vague :) Did you have a specific question you wanted to ask of legal, or action you want us to take? If so, what is it? If not, can it be assigned to someone who is actually tasked with taking action? I will continue to track it and answer questions if necessary in the future. FWIW, the current list appears to be: /extensions/sroaming/resources/content/prefs/firefox.xul /extensions/sroaming/resources/content/prefs/firefox.js /browser/installer/windows/msi/firefox.ver /browser/installer/windows/msi/firefox.mm /browser/locales/en-US/firefox-l10n.js /browser/app/firefox-os2.ico /browser/app/macbuild/firefox.icns /browser/app/firefox-branding.js /browser/app/profile/firefox.js /browser/app/firefox.exe.manifest /browser/app/firefox.ico /browser/branding/unofficial/firefox-os2.ico /browser/branding/unofficial/pref/firefox-branding.js /browser/branding/unofficial/firefox.ico /browser/branding/unofficial/firefox.icns

Whiteboard: needinfo: what is the request?
Firefox is actually a branding name, on which MoFo holds a trademark, IINM. I think that we shouldn't be using this name in generic source code files, which can be in other brandings based on the Firefox browser codebase. CCing Gerv for his input here.
Perhaps in an ideal world, (almost) all of these files named firefox* would be named browser*. But I don't think it's a big enough deal to change them all. Firefox is a trademark - we don't own copyright on the word. If people are not using it to confuse people about the origin of stuff, then... So I suggest WONTFIX. Gerv
