updating summary from "Unknown content type handler is choking on un-identified types"
Summary: Unknown content type handler is choking on un-identified types → Can't download un-defined file types (including zip)
Putting on [nsbeta2+] radar for beta2 fix.
Whiteboard: [nsbeta2+]
testing opt comm builds: this occurs on winNT [2000.05.16.09] and linux [2000.05.16.08], but not Mac [2000.05.16.11].
Severity: normal → critical
OS: Windows NT → Linux
It will happen on the mac for a content type not in IC.
#38572 is marked a dupe of this one, so I'll also mark #40558 a dupe. Both are the same issue: Only ftp download of .zip files does fail. http works, other file types do work. Please check if they are really dupes, I don't understand the code (as I don't understand any piece of moz code)... :(

I click on that URL under Windows and go to a page that contains this kind of thing. The browser now seems to handle it as text/plain which sounds plausible. I get the same on Mac and Linux so I'm resolving this WORKSFORME. BTW, I get pretty much the same behavior from Communicator, for what it's worth. OK, if this is resolved, what about the dupes? The ftp zip thingy?
I reopened 38572.
40558 should have been resolved as a dup of 38572 (which was just reopened; see my previous comment). 27729 was not a dup of this one, either, but is now fixed so I left it resolved and added a comment. Thanks for pointing out the linkages to the other bugs. We need to keep an eye on that sort of thing, I guess.
