Seth, there are already tens of bugs here and the discussion is getting very fragmented and difficult to follow. There are separate bugs for every single decision, while lots of these decisions are interdependent. Perhaps we should take the design discussion to the mozilla.dev.firefox and direct people who comment in the bugs to the newsgroup?

I'll be posting updated mockups to bug 393508, feel free to discuss there or on the thread in dev.apps.firefox
Strange, I'm quite sure I've seen a bug about not taking the protocol part of the URL into account for autocompletion being fixed. But not only can't I find the bug number, but the bug itself is still present: Typing p on a current linux nightly gives htt*p*://heise.de/, only a subsequent l results in the more useful http://*pl*anet.mozilla.org/. Does anyone remember the bug number?

The discussion was brought up here: http://ed.agadak.net/2008/01/not-just-awesome
But there doesn't seem to be a referenced bug :=/

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
Gerv
Component: Places → Bookmarks & History
QA Contact: places → bookmarks

while some of the remaining dependencies are still valid, the project this meta bug was tracking has long gone, so the usefulness of keeping this open is minimal.
