Thunderbird Version 10.0
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:10.0) Gecko/20120129 Thunderbird/10.0
Application Build ID 20120129064235
Procedure to view bug:
email has arrived in in HTML format.
Open an email in the viewing pane OR double click to get new tab.
Highlight a word or phrase in the email.
Copy it to clipboard with ctrl+c
Press 'Reply' or 'Reply All'
The 'Write' window opens and instead of the complete original email being shown under the outgoing email (/signature) its only what has been placed on the clipboard.
This could be a feature - but I think is a related bug..
Reproducible: Always

This is intentional. If you really hate it, set mailnews.reply_quoting_selection to false in the config editor.

Comment 1 is off topic (and intended behaviour, see comment 2).
Comment 0 is a valid request for enhancement (-> confirming), and iirc, Jim has been planning to do something along these lines (at least for attachments):
STR
1 Select one or more messages from message list
2 Press Ctrl+C (or right-click > Copy)
3a Try to paste selected messages into another folder: Navigate to folder, press Ctrl+V (or right-click message pane > Paste)
3b In Composition's attachment pane (or similar appropriate spots, details are moot), try to paste the selected messages as attachments (Ctrl+V, or right-click > Paste)
3c In your OS file manager (e.g. Windows Explorer), try to paste the selected messages as .eml files (Ctrl+V, or right-click > Paste)
Actual results
3a paste messages into another folder - not possible
3b paste messages as attachments - not possible
3c paste messages as .eml files - not possible
Expected
Enable/provide appropriate UI and behaviour for 3a, 3b, 3c.

Similar requests for folders and address book items, where moving and copying is not accessible for keyboard-only users:
Bug 404955 - Cannot move or copy folders using keyboard only (implement right-click "Move to" / "Copy To" context menu actions and Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V for folders)
Bug 339227 - Moving entries between address books using the keyboard (cut/copy/paste cards)
