What is the point of this versus bug 456814?
Some of the bugs you depend on aren't guaranteed to make Thunderbird 3, some of them aren't even bugs in Thunderbird 3.
Hence I really don't see the point of this bug.

@herb (re: summary) we all hope to see the new header pane fly, but still, it's not a plane, it's a pane (and sometimes a pain!)
Theoretically, the scope of this bug is smaller (new header pane only) than that of bug 456814 (new message reader, incl. new header). Practically, there's no difference as the vast majority of bugs that block bug 456814 are about the new header. Having two meta bugs with almost same content is confusing and should be avoided.
--> This bug should be closed "invalid".

Just to give the motivation to open this bug:
- I didn't find a similar bug. But bug 456814 seems to cover most of what I was looking for.
- During the development of the CompactHeader addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/13564) I find issues with the header pane once in a while. So I have to check for existing bugs before I file a new one. It would be a great help if I could check at one place if this issue was already raised.
- I'm not sure if bug 456814 is really the right place for what I was thinking about: This bug (513553) should include also issues related to addons for the header pane.
So why are the following bugs not included in bug 456814:
bug 494478, bug 498448, bug 499989, bug 513475

If you mean "issues in the core that make it hard/impossible for addons to implement things", marking those as blocking that bug sound fine to me. If you mean "bugs in the addons themselves", we don't track those on bugzilla.mozilla.org; each addon is responsible for its own bug-tracking.

They should have been. Because the dependency lists are maintained by hand, things sometimes get overlooked. I've added all four of those. Thanks for noticing that they were missing!
Resolving as a DUP of bug 456814.
