I took bug 1024055 pretty far, and I think we have in some agreement on an approach, but this is going to take a few pieces to get right for all harness/script combinations.

We should stop working until we have some automated tests that catch errors like bug 1325148.

Agreed, though this is about 90% finished. Xpcshell is the last one to land. I will try to get some tests up before that happens.
